Design Research



Design Research (GDG 615 & GDA 615) offers basic method and process of research in design. Basically, it prepares students to carry out individual research on related field of visual communication studies including Graphic Design, Multimedia, Brand, Advertising & Illustration.

Through series of lectures and in-class exercise, students will learn step-by-step approach in gathering data, reviewing literature, applying method, analyzing data and present result. The outcome of the course will enable students to identify and solve problem by creating new design in related areas. 


OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course, you should be able to:
·    To identify a dynamic design process and build a guidelines as method of creative problem solving (advertising, multimedia, corporate identity and illustration)
·    To nurture the problem solving skills by applying critical and creative thinking
·    To engage in Graphic Design process and Visual Communication practices for professional portfolio development.
·    To evaluate student’s competency level in finding the relevant issues for the formulation of creative strategic thinking process.

INTRODUCTION
As an advanced level of Graphic Communication studies, this course covers issue regarding visual communication strategies, research methods, creative approaches in professional graphic design practice and design management skills. Each student will be given an option to choose one major area of concentration which includes four sub categories in fulfilling the requirement for the project. The area are advertising, corporate identity, multimedia and illustration. Students are required to prepare the present three proposals to respective supervisor accordingly. The topic of proposal must be real and discussed thoroughly between students and respective supervisor.

GRADING SCHEME
The above objectives along with class participation, completion of work, 100% attendance, punctuality and presentation will serve as the basis for grading. Inability to meet these requirements will affect final grade. Below is the detail of the carry marks for this course.
